Simone T. Fitzgerald passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 26, 2026 at Our Lady of Providence, where she had lived for over two years. A woman of deep Catholic faith, Simone trusted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She attended Mass and prayed the Rosary daily. Quiet in suffering and never given to complaint, she lived her faith through prayer, kindness, and loving those God put before her. She was a reminder that "strength doesn't need to shout" to be felt. She reminded her children often that "we are all different, so we need to love each other."
She was an avid reader of devotional and health literature. She loved being outdoors-walking, gardening, picking berries and hiking well into her early eighties.
She is lovingly remembered by her six children: Matthew J. Fitzgerald and his wife Kathleen; Louise Lynch and her husband Christopher; Christina Schumacher and her partner Jonathan Mayette; Thomas Fitzgerald and his fiancé Rebekah Bryrer ; Laurie Daniels and her husband Matthew; and Mark Fitzgerald and his partner Molly Linn. Simone also leaves many beloved grandchildren: Meghan Fitzgerald, Molly Peet, Cameron Fitzgerald and his wife Julia, Kiernan Fitzgerald, Michael Lynch, Kevin Lynch, Alysabeth Lynch, Elise Simone, Liam Fitzgerald, Ashton Daniels, and Alexander Fitzgerald. Her great-grandchildren include Maddox Peet, Mekynzi Peet, Annabelle Fitzgerald, Myles Fitzgerald; and step grandchildren: Patrick, Connie and Brianna Lancaster. She is predeceased by her husband Martin J. Fitzgerald, Jr, her grandson Gunnar Schumacher and her five siblings: Fernand Tanguay, Rita Piette, Marcel Tanguay, Claude Tanguay and Jean Boissenault.
There will be a viewing at Guare & Sons Funeral Home at 30 School Street in Montpelier, VT on April 1st at 11:00 AM until 1:00 pm followed by a 2 pm Catholic funeral Mass at St. Augustine's Church on Barre Street; a Christian burial will follow at Berlin Corner Cemetery.
