Simone Karbonik Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by J. J. Duffy Funeral Home on May 26, 2025.
Simone Karbonik passed away Friday, May 23, 2025 in her home, always having been surrounded by love. She was 101 years old.
She was the beloved and devoted mother of David and Peter Karbonik and his wife Nidia, all of Cumberland, the mother of Kathy Halle and her husband David of Baltimore, Maryland, Carol LaPorte and her husband Jan Jaap of the Netherlands and Anne Karbonik of Cumberland; her precious grandchildren Juliana and Elise Karbonik of Cumberland and Jaap and Jesse LaPorte of the Netherlands.
She was born Simone Francis Roy in New Britain, Connecticut, the daughter of August and Emily (Brousseau) Roy. In New Britain, she met the love of her life, the late Michael Karbonik, who, then, whisked her away to Rhode Island, where she continued her adventures of homemaking and a flair for decoration.
She was a fabulous homemaker and made that her vocation, a dream from high school. She loved decorating, gardening, flowers, reading, dancing, music, sewing and the beach. She loved making her home a beautiful and inviting place for all who entered. She was loving and kind and always had a kind word for all, always putting others first. She also worked many years at Ann and Hope.
In her 60's, Simone went to CCRI where she attained her Associates Degree. While in college, she joined the French Club, travelling to Paris to strengthen her French. She also travelled to the Netherlands, to visit her daughter and grandchildren.
She was untiring, active, energetic, on the go, determined, productive, driven. Her memory will be cherished by those who knew and loved her best. She will be remembered for her flair, elegance and style, and her untiring and relentless desire to use all life offered her.
Relatives and friends are graciously invited to Simone's Life Celebration Funeral Mass, to be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 30, 2025, at St. Joseph's Church, Mendon Road, Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to https://rimemorycafes.org/, an organization supporting people living with dementia and their care partners.
