CLAYTON H. “SKIP” BROWN 

TEMPLETON – Clayton H. “Skip” Brown, 79, of Baldwinville, passed after a brief illness Wednesday evening March 27th, 2024. Upon returning home Skip was graciously embraced by his fellow fire service brotherhood and family. 

Skip was born in Gardner on November 17th, 1944, son of the late Donald and Madalyn (Smith) Brown of East Templeton. Skip was a lifelong resident of Templeton and a graduate of Narragansett Regional High School Class of 1962.

Skip worked for many years at Union Twist Drill in Athol and Heritage Truck and Transit of Gardner. He served on the Templeton Fire Department for 26 years, retiring as Deputy Chief, and was also a founding member of the Templeton Rescue Squad. Skip was actively involved in the Boys and Girls Scouts of America for many years. He was a proud lifetime member of the Otter River Sportsman’s Club. His hobbies included tinkering in his workshop, stockcar racing, woodworking, gardening, dancing, and having fun. He was the life of the party. 
He married his high school sweetheart the late Judith A. (Kirby) Brown on May 13th, 1967 and together they celebrated 49 years of marriage. Skip and Judy hosted many family and community gatherings at their home. He cherished the times spent in Maine camping in Wells and sitting in the sand at York Beach during the summers creating lasting memories with family and friends.

Skip leaves his sons Ryan Brown and his wife Jennifer Krause of Lee, Mass., Randy Brown and his wife Julie of Otter River, and his daughter Christine Brown of Baldwinville; his sister Donna Sans of Baldwinville, and his precious grandchildren, Jason, Jenny and Jack Brown. His in-laws Richard and Beth Kirby, Paul Kirby, Kathleen and Peter Webster, JoAnn Illinitch, Dr. James and Kathleen Kirby, Michael and Leanne Kirby, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Skip was predeceased by his beloved wife Judy, his brothers Gordon and Richard Brown and his wife Phyllis, brother-in-laws Robert Sans and Robert Kirby. 

Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 from 4-7 P.M. and on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 10:00 am at Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon, Massachusetts. His funeral service will be on Wednesday April 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Funeral Home. Following the service he will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Cemetery, Bridge St., Baldwinville, Massachusetts.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Otter River Sportsman’s Club or a charity of your choice in Skip’s memory.
