Obituary published on Legacy.com by Liming Family Funeral Home on Nov. 14, 2025.
Smudge Booth-Alcorn was born on July 14, 2014, in a barn on the farm at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore amongst pigeons. He was named after the smudge of black fur on his head that faded as he grew.
At just two days old when he came into our lives, he was full of spunk and life. A survivor. He remained small throughout his life but more than made up for his size with his feisty personality. He was frequently referred to as having "little man syndrome," but he was the most loving, hostile cat to ever live. He would violently attack your feet at night (he hated feet) but would then immediately want to cuddle, a treasured nightly tradition.
We loved everything about him; he was perfect in every way imaginable. You were never alone, not even for a bath or shower. But most of all, he had a deeply imbedded food obsession. Even as a "bottle baby," he would devour his actual bottle, tearing it to shreds. For him, the hunt for food was endless. A lifelong obsession. He would steal anything he could get and ferociously defend it. Bread especially wasn't safe. Remnants of a massacred bag and a loaf of obliterated bread were a common discovery.
His deep love for shoulder rides was another treasured trait. Perching up on our shoulder as we walked around was his favorite place to be, deeming him the nickname "Shoulder Kitty," along with "Smudgins" and "Smudgy Wudgy." Our most beloved thing about Smudge, though, was his eye kisses, something he started as a small kitten for comfort. Having him press his nose into the corner of your eye could cure anything.
Our favorite memories of Smudge are the night he got a Dorito bag stuck on his head and another when he literally tried to eat our newborn daughter, Dakota, to get her to stop crying. To know Smudge means you knew that this kitty LOVED Doritos and Oreos. So that being a near-death experience of his was no surprise.
There was just something about the way he looked at you, like he had the soul of another being bound to a cat body. He was a once-in-forever who will be profoundly missed. We will love you forever and always, always have and forever will.
He will be deeply missed by Genna Booth and Andrew Alcorn and their children, Phoenix, Dakota, Jude, and Gray, who will always look to the sky for him, knowing he is looking down from the clouds that he reached by growing his wings. He will forever be in the hearts of Leslie Phipps and Chase Booth. He will also be missed by JoJo and Jackson (together they made the "Three Amigos") and Lucy, Clay, and Goose (who he hated nearly as much as he hated missing a meal). He joins his brothers Mr. Grey, Skeeter, and Ollie.
