Sofie Whitney, 55 of Tucumcari, NM passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 9, 2024, with her loved ones by her side.
Sofie was born on April 18,1969 in Tucumcari, NM to Isabel and Mary A. Cordova. Sofie was raised in Tucumcari and was a parishioner at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, where she also received all her sacraments. Sofie attended school in Tucumcari and later received her high school diploma in West Memphis, Arkansas. In 2008, while maintaining a household and working in a caregiving facility, Sofie earned her Associate’s Degree as a Medical Lab Technician, from Amarillo College. Sofie then served the community of Santa Rosa at Guadalupe County Hospital, as a Lab Technician, until 2018.
In her spare time, Sofie loved to sing and dance and donated her time for church events. However, Sofie’s greatest joy came from the time she spent with her grandchildren and attending family events.
Sofie is preceded in eternal life by her husband: Billy Whitney, her parents: Isabel and Mary A. Cordova, her grandparents: Emilio and Estella Lucero and Cipriano and Rita Sandoval, Jose and Sofia Cordova, her sister: Sandra D. Cordova-Heredia, nieces: Lila R. Diaz and Kelly Biggers and nephews: James R. Johnson and Chase Bass.
Sofie is survived by her daughters: Latisha (Mike) Vargas, Brittany Whitney (Joe), Alexandria (Jared) Koch, her sons: Jonathan Martnez (Bailey), Richard (Theresa) Martinez and Toyo Martinez, 21 grandchildren: Abagail (Jehieli), Michael, Sara, J.J., Ominique, Alexia, Khalia, Juliana, Alijah, Aubriana, Nathaniel, Eleana, Jonathan, Jr., Gabriel, Elena, Gabby, Juano, Angelica, Annalise, Katrina and Zoey. Sofie is also survived by her siblings: Delia (Jose) Garcia, Emily (Jim) Johnson, Lawrence (Barbara) Cordova, Patsy (Ramon) Gomez, Ernest Cordova, Joseph Cordova and Daniel Heredia, 21 nieces and nephews and close, longtime friends: Serenity Smith and Kayla Peace.
Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary will be Sunday, June 16, 2024 at 6PM at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Tucumcari.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, June 17, 2024 at 11AM at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Tucumcari, with Father Cameron Degani officiating the service.
Interment will follow at Tucumcari Memorial Park with Mike Vargas, Mike Vargas, Jr., Jehieli Gomez, Joe Quintana, J.J. Cordova, Johathan Martinez, Daniel Heredia and Ramon Gomez serving as Pallbearers.
