Solangel Acevedo Mejia, age 67 of Hamilton Township, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. Born in Cali, Colombia, Solangel made a home in South River for many years before moving to Hamilton Township three years ago. Wherever she lived, she brought light, joy, and deep compassion to those around her.
Solangel will be remembered as a woman of great warmth, strength, and generosity. She cherished time spent with her large and close-knit family, whether it was going out together or simply staying in and cooking one of her many delicious meals. A natural caretaker and devoted daughter, she lovingly cared for her mother with affection, always putting the needs of others before her own. Solangel was also a thoughtful listener, always ready with wise advice and an open heart.
She was a courageous cancer survivor whose resilience inspired everyone who knew her. Even in the face of life's challenges, she never lost her smile or her love for music, dancing, and bringing joy to others. Her ever-present kindness, laughter, and strength left a lasting impact on those lucky enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
She is predeceased by her parents Jose Acevedo and Silvia Mejia, her sister Lady Acevedo Mejia and her brother Luis Acevedo. Surviving are her siblings and their spouses, Gloria Acevedo, Myriam Acevedo Mejia, Julian Acevedo Mejia (Estella), Soley Curry (Robert), Silvia Reams (Charles), Fanny Acevedo Mejia (Luis Angel), Hernan Acevedo Mejia, Carlos Julio Acevedo Mejia (Alba), Adriana Acevedo Mejia (Mauricio Tenorio), and Gemny Acevedo Mejia (Fernando) and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.
Funeral services will be private under the direction of the Maliszewski Memorial Home, 121 Main Street, Sayreville, NJ. Complete funeral details, directions, and letters of condolence to the family may be found by visiting www.maliszewskimemorialhome.com.
