Goldsboro- Solomon Drawhorn, Jr., son of the late Solomon Drawhorn, Sr. and Ruthie Scott was born on May 27, 1951 in Marion County, SC and entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 27, 2024 at his home in
Goldsboro, NC.
Solomon attended public schools in Pennsylvania and after completing high school he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1971. Solomon served 11 years in the 82nd Airborne. In 1976 he successfully completed the Primary Non-Commissioned Officers Course for Combat Arms at Fort Bragg, NC. In 1978 he completed the Basic Non-Commissioned Officer course for Combat Arms Field Artillery in Vilseck, Germany. He also received his completion of educational requirement for Electrician Helper while serving in Germany. In addition to Germany, Solomon served in Vietnam and Korea.
Solomon received a letter of commendation in 1979 for his outstanding act of professional and civic service.
Solomon was honorably discharged in 1982, but never lost his love and passion for the Army and serving his country.
After his career in the Army, Solomon began his own contracting company naming it Drawhorn Construction where he successfully worked for over 40 years.
For his hobbies, Solomon enjoyed collecting antique coins and cars. He also had a love for Martial Arts so much that he traveled while in the Army participating in championships. He received a certificate of participation for the PON DO KWAN ALL Style Karate Championship in 1979.
He leaves to cherish fond memories, his loving and devoted wife, Hope Drawhorn of the home; his step-mother, Florence Drawhorn of Coatesville, PA; eight daughters, Sheleada Rawlings of
Washington, DC, Gwendolen Wilder of Texas, Cassandra Moore of Maryland, Selena Drawhorn of Maryland, Latasha Alston (James) of
Goldsboro, NC, Amy Moon (Carlton) of Kenly, NC, April Franklin of
Goldsboro, NC and Dreama Collins of the home; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Annette Davis (Tony) of Fayetteville, NC, Vera Sykes (Jimmy) of
Goldsboro, NC, Shelly Middleton of Coatesville, NC; two brothers, George Drawhorn (Sandy) of
Goldsboro, NC, Michael Green (Cammy) of
Goldsboro, NC; a special brother, Charles Zwerling (Melissa) of
Goldsboro, NC; five sister-in-law's, Catherine Hardway of
Goldsboro, NC, Felicia Franklin of
Goldsboro, NC, Wanda Hayes of
Goldsboro, NC, Leslie Williams of
Goldsboro, NC, Felicia Franklin of
Goldsboro, NC, Cynthia Robinson of
Goldsboro, NC; three brother-in-law's, Wayne Broadhurst of
Goldsboro, NC, Richard Franklin (Clarice) of Alabama, James Franklin of
Goldsboro, NC; his aunt, Johnnie Anderson; his uncle, Curtis Scott; two special nieces, Alexis Zwerling and Tiffany Zwerling of
Goldsboro, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Simon Drawhorn and Agnes Phillips; son, Solomon Drawhorn III; sister, Darlene Drawhorn; two brothers, Willie Drawhorn and Wayne Green; and a very special sister-in-law, Vikki Marcell.
A service to honor the life of Solomon will be held on Monday, June 3, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home in Goldsboro. Interment will conclude at the Eastern Carolina State Veteran Cemetery.
