Brandon Funeral Home - FitchburgIt is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Sondra L. Surette, 49, of Fitchburg a beloved mother, daughter, sister, and aunt, who left us on October 6, 2025 following an ongoing illness she faced with courage and faith. Born in Fitchburg, MA, on January 29, 1976, Sondra graced our lives with her unwavering strength, boundless compassion, and contagious laughter. As Albert Einstein once said, "There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle." Sondra certainly lived as if everything was a miracle, cherishing every moment, every interaction, every sunrise and sunset.
Sondra dedicated her life to caring for others. Her career as a CNA during her early years was not merely a job; it was a true calling, a vocation that allowed her to touch countless lives with her kindness and empathy. Though her journey was not easy, she faced every challenge with remarkable courage, faith, and grace that inspired everyone who knew her. Despite her illness, she never lost her spark or her ability to make others feel seen and loved.
Sondra is survived by her children, Santo Bernabel, and Jeaneya Bernabel; her sisters, Heidi Surette of Leominster, Andrea and Audrea of Worcester; and her nieces Saysha Surette-Jackson and her husband Darien Jackson of Leominster, Sondrea Surette and Rashaun Ventura of Fitchburg, Jeane Narcisse and her fiancé Adam Sisouk of Fitchburg, Jonelle Cameron, her husband Delaino Cameron and their son, Jasiah Cameron of Virginia. Her legacy continues in her great-nieces Lilyannie Rose, Serenity-Rose, Harmony-Rose, and Amylah Leilani. She also leaves behind many friends including two long term friendships with Jean B. Narcisse and Scooby. She was preceded in death by her mother, Alberta Surette. Each of these loved ones held a special place in Sondra's heart, and her love for them was her enduring gift.
Sondra loved her children deeply and devoted her life to their happiness. Though we mourn her loss, we find comfort in knowing that her pain has ended and her spirit now rests in peace. We believe she has been reunited with loved ones who went before her, embraced by God’s eternal light. Her presence will forever be felt in the laughter of her family, the lessons she taught, and the love she so freely gave.
The family invites all who knew and loved Sondra to share their memories and photographs below. Her life was full of joy, love, and laughter, and we look forward to celebrating these moments together.
Calling hours will be Friday November 14th from 3PM-5PM, with a service at 5PM at Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg, MA.
As stated in 2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Thus, Sondra's memory will remain in our hearts, and her spirit will continue to inspire us.
