Sone Chai

Sone Chai, 78, of Des Moines, Iowa peacefully passed away on October 10, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Sone was born on October 10, 1946 in Thakhek, Laos. He was born to Phu Chai and Soon Liu. Sone is the youngest of five siblings. His sister, Nouchanh Liu was the eldest. Followed by his three elder brothers, Poun Chai, Qui Chai and Tien Chai with Sone Chai following after them. Nouchanh, Poun, and Tien have preceded Sone, with Qui being the remaining sibling who is currently living in France.
Sone married Sengvixay Southammavong in 1974 in Laos. They had three sons, Siaoming, Andrew, and Siaolong. In 1981, they migrated to America and started a new life, adding two daughters, Julie and Jenny.
Sone worked for the Des Moines Public Schools for over twenty years, until he retired in 2012.
Throughout his life, Sone cared for his family and continued to do so by looking after his grandchildren.
Sone was survived by his caring family Siaoming, Andrew, Siaolong (wife Mindy and their children Lianna and Myla), Julie (Husband Cheng and their children Eva and Emme) and Jenny (husband Tae).
Visitation will be held at 12:00 p.m. at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow beginning at 1:00 p.m. The family would like to invite everyone immediately after the conclusion of the service to the home of Sone and Sengvixay at 1619 East Court Avenue, Des Moines, IA for lunch.
