Sonia J. Ginther

Sonia Jeanette Roy Ginther, 93, of East Hartford, CT, died peacefully surrounded by family February 10, 2026. She is predeceased by her husband of 48 years Timothy Francis Ginther. She is also predeceased by her parents Romeo and Jane (Veilleux) Roy and her sisters Jeanette Verrill, Suzanne Roy, Sylvia Mercier, and Paulette Shanahan.

She is survived by her four children Carol Caporale of Litchfield, NH, Karen Fornarelli (husband John) of Colchester, CT, Susan Stoughton of Burlington, CT, and Joseph Ginther (partner Jessica Dolan) of East Hartford.

She is also survived by her seven grandchildren: Laura Jacobs (husband Taylor), Linda Caporale (wife Zoe Bellio), Steven Caporale (fiancé Amanda Becotte), Robert Ginther, Vito Fornarelli, Jacqueline Stoughton, and Bridgette Stoughton. She also had two great-granddaughters, Vaela Fornarelli and Mallory Jacobs.

Sonia was born in Ste. Zacharie, Quebec, Canada and grew up in Lewiston, Maine. She graduated from Lewiston high school in 1950. Sonia and Timothy met and were married in 1957. Shortly after they bought a home and raised a family in East Hartford, CT. She remained in her home for the duration of her life. She was a long-time communicant of St. Christopher Church in East Hartford.

Sonia Ginther was the most wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Everyone who met her cherished their relationship with her. She was a kind and generous person throughout her life. She loved to play cards, especially cribbage, do crossword puzzles and spend time with her family. She was an excellent cook and all were welcome in her home for food and drink. She especially loved to sit outside on her screened patio. A special thanks goes to Angela Kwaotse, her loving caregiver in her final months, Scott Bertand her unofficial "second son", and his wife Sandy.

Her life will be celebrated privately with family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
