Sonia Grasso

Sonia Grasso (nee Gerelli), age 87 formerly of Logan Twp., NJ passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 26, 2025. Born on March 10, 1938 in Paulsboro, NJ to the late Rosario Gerelli and Carol (nee Cunningham), she was the eldest of five children, Louie, Elizabeth, Tina, and John.
A proud graduate of Paulsboro High School Class of 1955, Sonia went on to marry the love of her life Joseph Grasso on October 29, 1960. Together they shared fifty-five wonderful years of marriage before Joe's passing in 2015.
Sonia is survived by her children, Joseph Grasso & his partner, Jim O'Neill, and Wendy Topeka & her husband, Wesley; her cherished grandchildren, Rebecca & Matthew Topeka; her beloved sister, Elizabeth Sears; and many adored nieces and nephews.
Family was everything to Sonia. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend - the true heartbeat of her family. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she helped raise them. Her Yorkie, Penni, was her constant companion.
Sonia lit up every room she entered with her warmth, laughter, and kindness. She was selfless, living and giving to all who crossed her path. She loved to talk, shop, entertain, and laugh. Sonia enjoyed many vacations with her family and friends, which included cruises, trips to California to see her son, day trips to Wildwood & the Poconos, and recently a trip to Disney World with her son & daughter. She had a flair for everything sparkly, especially diamonds and animal prints.
At home, Sonia could often be found in her pajamas with a cup of tea, reading cookbooks, Hallmark movies playing in the background, and surrounded by her signature pineapples. A woman of faith, she found comfort in praying the rosary.
Sonia will be missed more than words can express, but her beautiful spirit and the memories she created will live on in all who loved her.
Relatives and friends may visit from 9:30 am to 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 29th at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main Street, Mantua, NJ where a life celebration will begin at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Woolwich Twp., NJ.
