Sonia V. Gravenor, 84, of Crystal Lake, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024. She was born on January 27, 1940, in Chicago to John and Vera (Ruman) Bachar.
Sonia was a proud graduate of Lake View High School and went on to have a successful career as a sales representative for Continental and KLM Airlines, where she worked for over 20 years. Her passion for travel took her on many memorable adventures, including tracing her family roots in Czechoslovakia and Holland, and enjoying tropical destinations such as Barbados and Hawaii. She also cherished the serene beauty of the West Coast shoreline of Michigan.
On November 22, 1975, Sonia married the love of her life, John Gravenor, and together they raised their son, John. After her time with the airlines, she enjoyed a second career as a real estate agent for Coldwell Banker, where she worked for ten years.
Sonia's greatest joy came from her family. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother to John, and a proud grandmother to Jane, Cora, and Faye. She had a special love for children and animals, especially her dogs.
Sonia is survived by her husband of nearly 49 years, John Gravenor; her son, John (Laura) Gravenor; her beloved grandchildren, Jane, Cora, and Faye; and her siblings, Carol Cunningham and Steve Bachar.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, John Bachar and Rita Grows.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 12 noon at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. Burial will follow at Crystal Lake Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorials in Sonia’s name be made to SPCA or PAWS, reflecting her lifelong love of animals.
