Sonja Corbin Obituary Sonja Lee Corbin, 87, of Madison, South Dakota, formerly of Howard, South Dakota died on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Bethel Lutheran Home in Madison, South Dakota. Services will be 2 PM, Wednesday October 15, 2025 at the Willoughby Funeral Home. Interment will be at Prairie Flower Cemetery immediately following the service. Visitation will be one hour preceding the service.
Sonja Lee Woodraska was born November 30, 1937 in Mitchell, South Dakota. She was the first born of Rolland Woodraska and Josephine (Stach) of Letcher. She grew up in the Letcher and Artesian area and moved to Carthage during her late teens graduating in May 1956 from Carthage High School. It was in Carthage that she met the love of her life, Robert "Kurt" Corbin, fresh out of the Navy. On June 8, 1956 she was united in marriage to Kurt in St. Charles, Illinois where they lived several years before returning to the Miner County area.
Sonja was known for her baking skills, sewing abilities and making family welcome for huge family gatherings. She loved animals and had a tender heart for kittens and dogs of any kind. Her grandchildren were the delight of her life and she loved having them near. She loved doing puzzles at Bethel Lutheran Home and participating in the many activities provided there. The music programs were some of her favorites. Her sweet spirit was loved by those who helped to care for her and she always had a smile for each one.
Those grateful for having shared in Sonja's life include her daughters, Jody (Kenny) Johnson of Madison, Dawn Bergan of Madison and Bobbi (Steven) Lund of Howard. Five grandchildren, Brooke (Randy) Moschell of Howard, Jamie Bergan (Durrell Davidson) of Rapid City, Austin Lund of Madison, Derek (April) Lund of Madison, and Michaela (Nathan) Shay of Sioux Falls, and eight great grandchildren: Evelynn, Ramona, Hugh, Sully and Remi, Tavin, Dane and Falynn.
Sonja was preceded in death by her parents, Rolland and Josephine Woodraska, husband, Kurt, sister, Bonnie Blocker, brother, Lowell Woodraska, niece, Stephanie Jones and son-in-law, Doug Bergan.
