Sonja was a wonderful woman who would do anything for her family. She was athletic, serving on both her high school basketball and softball teams.
She worked as an C.P.A. for many years before retiring. Sonja kept many horses and adored each and every one of them. She also love feeding and watching the many birds that visited her home. She had a great green thumb and took pride in caring for her house plants as well. Sonja enjoyed visiting the Biltmore House and local craft fairs whenever she could, taking the time to bond with her granddaughter Savannah during these special trips.
She is survived by her life-partner of nearly 19 years, Gary Best; two sons, John Allen Smith, and his wife, Janice, and Barron Lynn Smith; five brothers, Danny Anderson and his wife, Clara, Mickey Anderson and his wife, Virginia, Rickey Anderson and his wife, Gladys, Tony Anderson and his wife, Charlotte, and Tim Anderson; two sisters, Linda Tilley and Judy White and her husband, R.W.; two sisters-in-law, Donna Allen and her husband, Jimmy, and Linda Best; one brother-in-law, Rick Best and his wife, Audrey; five grandchildren, Savannah Smith, Jazmyn Smith, Trevor Smith, Corey Smith, and Clara Smith; one great-grandson, Arlon Cade Smith; several beloved nieces and nephews, including special niece and nephew, Peyton and Caden Rowland; and her cherished Aussie, "Zip".
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at Smoky Mountain Chapel with Pastor Mike Goforth officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
