Sonny Becker

LELAND CURTIS BECKER, known to his family and friends as "Sonny", was born to Leland and Mary Ellen (Smith) Becker on August 12, 1952. He departed this life July 20, 2024, at the Baptist Health Hospital in Elizabethtown, Kentucky at age 71.
Sonny was raised in Seiling, Oklahoma by his grandparents, Curtis and Lena (Mangus) Smith. He attended Seiling School where he was a percussionist in the school band. He graduated with the class of 1970. He worked after school and on weekends at the Sinclair Service Station on Seiling's Main Street many years. Sonny furthered his education at Northwestern in Alva, OK earning his bachelor's degree in social work.
He married Beth Hutchison in June 1972, and two children were born to this marriage, Jennifer and Benjamin. He married Bonnie Leech September 24, 1981, and two daughters were born to this marriage, Sara and Jessica. Sonny and Bonnie made their home in Alva, OK where Sonny was employed as a social worker for both children and adults. Bonnie preceded him in death May 22, 2007.
Following his retirement, Sonny returned to Seiling where he enjoyed riding motorcycles with friends. He worked for Clayton Propane and was also well known for his welding skills. He was talented and blessed with artistic skills. He was able to take what most would call junk and he turned it into all types of art.
Sonny was introduced to Catherine "Cat" (Clark) Kuhaneck who was working as the x-ray technician at the Seiling Hospital. Some of Cat's fellow hospital employees set the two of them up through a blind date. They were united in marriage September 24, 2013, in Elizabethtown, KY. They eventually made their home in Edmond, OK before moving to Kentucky in 2019 where they have continued to make their home.
Sonny is survived by his wife Cat Becker of Radcliff, KY; his children, Jennifer Redinger and husband Dustin of Seiling, OK, Ben Becker and wife Amber of Edmond, OK, Sara Mello and husband Jim of Platte City, MO and Jessica Summars and husband Eric of Buffalo, OK; 10 grandchildren: Karsyn and Kaiden Redinger; Logan, Liam and Phoenix Becker; Evie and Turner Mello; Masen, Paisley and Piper Summars. He is also survived by 3 sisters: Cindy Stephens of Norman, OK, Pam Bliss and husband Jack of Hutchinson, KS and Sherry Hoach and husband Danny of Ponca City, OK; 2 brothers: Floyd Acord of Canton, OK and Lloyd Acord of Watonga, OK. Sonny is also survived by several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends. He was preceded by his parents, grandparents, wife, Bonnie and a grandson, Greyson James Redinger.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Chism Family Funeral Home, Vine Grove, KY
