Sonya J. Abbott

Sonya J. Abbott, age 84, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at 12:45 am at the Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth on Tuesday February 25, 2025. Sonya was born on April 4, 1940 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the daughter of George M and Mary Cokel Higham. Sonya was raised in Monmouth attended Immaculate Conception School and Monmouth High School. Sonya married John W. Abbott, Sr. on May 9, 1958 at Immaculate Conception Church, where she was a member. He passed away on October 9, 2024. Sonya began work at Monmouth Pottery and since has been employed at many various jobs locally to Woolworth's of Monmouth. She retired from Wareco in Avon, Illinois in 2006. Sonya loved doing ceramics and crocheting. She also was an excellent cook and loved making her favorite recipes. She is survived by two daughters, Pam Thomas and Jim of Reynolds, Illinois and Debra Pulse and Jim of Monmouth, Illinois. Her son, Michael Abbott and Robin survives and is also of Monmouth, Illinois. There are ten grandchilden and fifteen great grandchildren. Her daughter in law Kathy Abbot also is surviving in Monmouth, Illinois. She is preceded in her death by her parents, her husband John, son John, three brothers, and two sisters.
A funeral service for Sonya is planned on Friday February 28, 2025 at 11:00 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Her family plans a visitation and will receive their friends from 10: 00 am to 11:00 am prior to the time of her serive. A memorial fund has been established by her family.
