Sophia Evelyn Lenoch

Sophia Evelyn (Garrett) Lenoch, 97, of Iowa City, passed peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Friday, April 19. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 25 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Iowa City with Father Ed Fitzpatrick officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Iowa City. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am-11:00 am at St. Wenceslaus prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Iowa City Hospice and Iowa City Catholic Worker Safe House and Shelter. Sophia is survived by her seven children: David (Bev Pennell) Lenoch, Cindy Cummings, Kathy (Mike) Steffen, Fran (Dennis) Griffin, Susan Lenoch, Janet (Steve) Roe and Celia (Rick) Eckermann; 15 grandchildren, Katy DeMeulenaere, Andrea Beeson, Michelle Cummings, Marcus Cummings, Bryan Steffen, Casey Steffen, Bridgette Meinhold, Scott Griffin, Tony Griffin, Kelly Griffin, Ben Mitchell, Nike Fleming, James Roe, Kacie Prottsman and Nile Eckermann; 24 (soon to be 25) great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Lenoch; her parents; two brothers (Wayne and Floyd Garrett), son-in-law Mike Cummings, twin great-granddaughters, and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, and nieces and a nephew. The entire Lenoch family would like to especially thank Brandy Mitchell (granddaughter-in-law) and nurse Sarah from Iowa City Hospice for the loving care they provided Sophia.
