Sophia Rose Paul

Sophia Rose Paul, of Dorchester, passed away on February 8, 2025. She was 99 years old.
Mrs. Sophia Utah Rose Paul, also sometimes affectionately called "Tata" was born in Port-de-Paix, October 3, 1925, the only child of Mr. Saint Gerrard Paul and Mrs. Fevrine Paul Petit. She died on February 8th, 2025.
Mrs. Paul was married at 24 to Mr. Flavien Exinor, Esquire and during their 2-year marriage, they had two daughters Marie-Sophie and Odille, nicknamed Doule. At age 30, Mrs. Sophia Paul suffered the unimaginable heartache of losing Doule who was just five. Several Years later she met Mr. Byron Dona Bouzi. And shortly after she turned 40, she had her third daughter, Marie-Jeanette. A decade later she would adopt Karl-Henri, her beloved son. Mrs. Sophia Paul was fiercely independent, supporting herself and her family through her work as a seamstress. She used her hands to transform large swaths of cloth into beautiful garments that many in her community wore.
In her 70's, she immigrated to the US and by that time she had lost her sight. She, however, maintained an unshakable faith and will. Her attention to details and artistry were passed on to her children Marie-Sophie, who turned this into a passion for decorating cakes, and Marie-Jeannette, who also continued this sewing tradition. Tata leaves behind two daughters, Marie-Sophie and Marie-Jeanette, her adopted son Karl-Henri, her grandchildren, Sophia, Manouska, Wilenska and Shamika and her great grandson Noah. Tata also leaves behind countless others as family and friends that she has touched and impact throughout her years.
Today, we celebrate Mrs. Paul, and she will rest in a dress that her daughter Marie Jeanette has lovingly sewn for her.
Viewing on Saturday February 22nd 9-10 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, St. Angela Church 1540 Blue Hill Avenue, Mattapan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 AM.
Interment in St. Michael Cemetery, Roslindale.
