Sophie Benavidez September 7, 1958 – December 23, 2024
Sophie Angelina Benavidez, age 66 passed away on December 23, 2024, at Kaseman Hospice following an illness. Sophie was born on September 7, 1958, in Grants, NM to Jose & Genoveva Aragon and grew up in a family of 11. She later moved to Albuquerque and had 3 children of her own: Genevieve Aragon, Ricky Benavidez, and Armando Medina III.
Sophie was a very strong, affectionate, dedicated, and very loving woman who always put the needs of others ahead of her own. She loved listening to very loud music and dancing, especially with her grandchildren. She had the best dance moves and was willing to teach anyone her moves. She was the type of person who would give you the shirt off her back and make sure your belly was full before you left her home. Her tortillas were amazing, she was always making them for everyone. She loved spending time hanging out with her children and grandchildren. Sophie lived a full life as a wonderful Mother, Nana, Great-Nana, Sister, Aunt, Cousin & Friend to all she touched. She loved her children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren to no end!
Sophie is preceded in death by her Mother Genoveva & Father Jose Aragon, brothers Steven, Joe, and Rudy Aragon, and her sisters Crisanta Lucero and Kate Aragon. Sophie is survived by her children Genevieve Aragon, Ricky Benavidez & wife Katherine and Armando Medina III; Grandchildren: Briana Escarcega & husband Cesar, Josiah Elliott & wife Victoria, Elijah Elliott & wife Ariana, Esperanza Lucero & partner Angelo, Nathan Benavidez, Danika Benavidez and AJ Medina; Great-Grandchildren: Brooke Escarcega, Elina Elliott, Benji Elliott, Aurora Lucero and 2 more on the way; Sisters: Corina Lucero husband Johnny, Isabelle Anaya, Theresa DuBerry & Josie Aragon; Brothers: Felix Aragon & Manuel Aragon wife Joanne. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services & Rosary Will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025, from 9:00 am – 11:00 am at Trujillo’s Family Funeral Home. Burial to follow at San Jose de Armijo Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Josiah Elliott, Elijah Elliott, Nathan Benavidez, Walter Perez, Angelo Lucero & Armando Medina III Honorary Pallbearers will be Benji Elliott & AJ Medina.
