Sotero Alvarado Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Broussard's Mortuary - Major Drive on Mar. 12, 2026.
Sotero Alvarado, 88, of Beaumont, Texas, passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont. He was born on April 22, 1937, in Mercedes, Texas, the youngest of three sons born to Maria Trevino and Alvino Alvarado.

Sotero attended Mercedes High School and later studied at Del Mar College for two years. He first served as an Army Reservist for one year before proudly serving in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1959. After receiving an honorable discharge, he began working for Dolly Madison and later spent many years as a dedicated truck driver for Frito-Lay, where he eventually retired. Never one to sit still, Sotero later became a certified air conditioning technician and also served his community by working at voting locations in Missouri City, Texas, for ten years.

Sotero married his high school sweetheart, Rosa Sauceda, on December 23, 1956, and together they shared sixty-nine years of marriage. He was a devoted and hardworking husband who often relocated for career opportunities and worked overtime, or even multiple jobs, to provide for his family. Together they raised three children: two sons and a daughter. In his later years, Sotero devoted himself to caring for and supporting his beloved Rosa.

Known affectionately as "Al" by friends and coworkers and "PawPaw" by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Sotero was loved by all who knew him. He enjoyed gardening, welcoming birds into his backyard, watching cowboy and western movies, and fixing anything that needed repair. His family will always remember that nobody could make hotcakes quite like PawPaw.

Sotero was also one of the biggest Dallas Cowboys fans around, standing by his team no matter the outcome. Some of his happiest moments were spent attending games at the stadium and cheering them on.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maria and Alvino Alvarado; his infant brother, Rudy Alvarado; his brother and sister-in-law, Arturo and Maggie Alvarado; nephew, Frankie Alvarado, nieces, Johanna and Madeline Alvarado, and his beloved eldest granddaughter, Heather Rose Graham.

Sotero is survived by his loving wife of sixty-nine years, Rosa A. Alvarado; his son, James Michael (Caroline) Alvarado of Lumberton; his daughter, Patricia Ann Farley of Dallas; and his son, Robert John (Cecilia) Alvarado of Sugar Land, along with his nephews, Hector Alvarado and Rufus Ortiz.

He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Amanda (Kevin) Avery, Benjamin Alvarado, Ciara (Trevor) Alexander, Michael Graham (partner, Daphne Garcia), Scott (Susan) Smith, Sean Farley, Ariel Farley, Jamie Farley, Kristen Farley, Avery Alvarado, Adyson Alvarado, Danny Schmalz, Kristin Painter, and Ashley Enriquez.

His surviving great-grandchildren include Colby (Kaylee) Revia, Marly (Denton) Fugere, Easton (fiancé, Madison) Revia, Anniston Graham, Aden, Isak, and Leif Avery, Reece Alexander, Grace and Stella Smith, Kieran & Nicci Farley.

His great-great-grandchildren include Rynlee, Rhys, and Rollins Revia; Everleigh, Ryder, Nash Fugere; and Harlow Revia.

Sotero was a devoted family man with a kind heart and gentle spirit. His life was a blessing to all who knew him, and his love will continue to live on in the hearts of his family. We are deeply grateful for the gift of his life and the love he shared with us all.

A gathering of Mr. Alvarado's family and friends will begin 12:00 p.m. with his funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Friday March 20, 2026, at Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard's Crematorium.
