Spiridione Camilleri

Spiro was born in Zurrieq, Malta on December 27, 1938, the 10th child of 11 to parents Emmanuel and Carmela Camilleri. His family owned a bottling company on the tiny island located off the coast of Italy.
Spiro left Malta at a young age to follow the Lord's calling to be a Jesuit priest, studying in India under Anthony de Mello, SJ. He was ordained in India in1970 and devotedly stayed there to do mission work. In 1983, Spiro left India to come to the United States, where he was a Diocesan priest at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Towson, MD.
Spiro left the priesthood in 1984 to marry Jacklyn Crofoot Wright. They lived together in Towson for the next 37 years. Spiro and Jackie loved an occasional fishing trip, visits to Pennsylvania Dutch Country for Polka music and nurturing a beautiful rose garden at their home.
After receiving his master's degree from Towson University, Spiro joined Catholic Charities where he served as a counselor for many years.
A musician at heart, Spiro had a profound love for music and enjoyed entertaining. He played both the piano and the accordion and was an active member of the Maryland Accordion Club in Catonsville, Maryland. Later in life, he volunteered to play for the residents at Arden Court, a memory care facility in Towson.
Spiro was preceded in death by his parents and siblings; Joseph, Anthony, Marianne, Nazareno, Catherine, Charles, Francis, Maria Delores, and Beatrice. He is survived by his beloved wife Jackie, his sister Maria Concetta (Tina), and his US Family: Warren Wright (Joann), Christopher Wright (Evelyn), and Mary Pat Seeman (Robert). Spiro is mourned by his cousins, nieces and nephews in Malta. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Holly, Annie, Julie, Christopher, Matthew, Daniel, Margaret and Joseph.
Spiro's life was marked by his dedication to his faith, his family and his music. He will be remembered for his dedicated caregiving to Jackie, his gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and the joy he brought through his music and love. He will be deeply missed by all who know him. May he rest in the Peace of Christ.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 24th from 10am-11am in Stella Maris Chapel, (2300 Dulaney Valley Road Timonium 21093). A Funeral Mass will follow for Spiro at 11a.m. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Church Cemetery, Fullerton.
