Sister Kathleen Martin RSM, Sister Kathleen Martin RSM, age 96 (formerly Sister William Marian) died peacefully at McAuley Convent, in Merion Pennsylvania on Tuesday, November 23, 2021. Clare as she was known to her sisters was one of eight children born to William and Isabella Martin in Allentown, PA. After graduating from Central Catholic High School in Allentown she attended Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing where she continued her nursing career until she entered the Sisters of Mercy at Merion PA. Professed in 1960, Clare's first ministry as a professed sister was to Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital as a Head Nurse on the Men's surgical unit. She was to devote 43 years of skilled and compassion nursing to Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital. Clare was well known for her love of nursing, organizational and leadership skills. She demonstrated a "great tenderness" for persons who were sick and dying. After completing a BSN in Nursing from Villanova University, she specialized in the area of ostomies and was certified as a Clinician for Ostomy patients. Sister was well known and respected for her compassion for patient always maintaining their dignity and treating them with respect. Clare was a strong advocate for the best in nursing care. She was beloved by her family especially her nieces and nephews many of whom followed her into the nursing profession she loved so much. A viewing will be held on Thursday, December 2nd at 9:00AM followed by a 10:OOAM funeral liturgy in the Convent of Mercy chapel 515 Montgomery Avenue, Merion, Pa. 19066 (Vaccinations and masks required). In lieu of flowers, donations in Sister's name would be appreciated to: Sisters of Mercy of the Americas at the above address.
