Sister Mary Therese O’Malley, OP, died May 7, 2025, at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wis. Her Remembering Service and Funeral Mass will take place 10:30 a.m. Wed., May 14 at St. Dominic Villa. Casey-McNett Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Sister Mary Therese was born April 19, 1928, to Nora and Patrick O’Malley in Chicago, Ill. She made profession as a Dominican Sister of Sinsinawa in 1951 and received the religious name Sister Loran. She earned the following degrees in mathematics—a BA from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln; an MA from Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C.; and a PhD from Columbia University, New York, N.Y.
Her ministry was dedicated to teaching. In Illinois, she taught at St. Patrick School, Bloomington; and Rosary College, now Dominican University, River Forest, where she also was director of institutional research and a volunteer at the McGreal Center. Elsewhere, Sister Mary Therese taught at St. Mary High School, Greenwich, Conn.; and Edgewood High School, Madison, Wis.; and was visiting professor of math at Salve Regina College, Newport, R.I. She came to the Villa on March 3, 2025, and was very verbal about how happy she was to be there. She had a deep peace.
Sister Mary Therese was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Kevin O’Malley; and two sisters, Patricia O’Connell and Sister Rosalyn O’Malley, OP. She is survived by her Dominican Sisters.
