Stacey Marie Elliott, 57, of Hinton, Iowa, passed away at home on August 17 after several years of declining health. She was born June 4, 1968, to Bruce and Jane Elliott, who were overjoyed to finally welcome the baby they had prayed for.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday, August 21, 2025 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with a visitation one hour prior to service time.
Stacey grew up on the family farm near Hinton, where she quickly proved that sports were her true love. In high school she played volleyball, basketball, track, and softball : if it involved competing, she was in.
She went on to Buena Vista College, where she continued with basketball and softball, but also gained a team of lifelong friends who stuck with her long after the final buzzer. Stacey was an athlete at heart and a fan with no off switch. She had an unbelievable passion for sports : cheering on Iowa State and the Pittsburgh Steelers with the kind of intensity usually reserved for coaches pacing the sidelines. Friends knew if there was a game on, Stacey would be watching, likely with a beer in her hand, yelling at the refs through the TV.
She graduated with a degree in Education, later earning her Master’s in School Counseling. Stacey had a natural gift for connecting with kids and a talent for coaching. In her early teaching years she coached volleyball and softball, sharing her love for sports and competition with the next generation.
In 2000, Stacey fulfilled a lifelong dream when she adopted her son, Julian, from Romania. Being his mom was her proudest role.
In recent years, even as her health declined, she gave her time and energy to caring for her mother, Jane, until her passing just two months ago.
Stacey was feisty, independent, and always ready to stand her ground - especially if you dared to say anything bad about her teams!
She is survived by her son, Julian Elliott of Hinton, her special dog Jack, her brother Jim (Diana) Elliott of Story City, the Straight family, and various other extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and Mary Jane Elliott of Hinton, Iowa.
