Margaret “Peggy” Carroll, 98, of Hinton, Iowa, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2025, at a local care center.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Hinton United Methodist Church with Pastor Beth Odor officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 12:30 P.M. – 2:00 P.M. at the church. Private burial will be at Floyd Valley/Melbourne Cemetery.
Peggy was born on January 10, 1927, on the family farm in rural Merrill, Iowa, the daughter of Milt and Kathryn (Rush) Spies. She graduated from Hinton High School in May of 1945. Peggy married Delmar Carroll on September 1, 1948, at the Merrill Melbourne United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on March 28, 2000.
Peggy worked as a cook for the Hinton Community School for many years. She was a favorite at the school, cherishing the friendships and memories made there. Peggy was a lifelong member of the Merrill Melbourne United Methodist Church, where she held several offices and taught Sunday school. She loved baking cookies and goodies for anyone in need in the community, and her specialty was homemade caramels she enjoyed sharing at Christmas.
Survivors include her sons: Michael (Maureen) Carroll of Le Mars, and Dennis Carroll of Las Vegas, NV; Grandchildren: Chad (Kelly) Carroll, Adam (Genevieve) Carroll, Elizabeth (Craig) Singer, Haley Carroll, and Austin Carroll; great grandchildren: Joey, Maggie, Michael, Brody, Levi, Ayden, and Cooper; great-great granddaughter: Maliyah; sister-in-law: Jeanette Spies; and many nieces and nephews.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Delmar, her parents, mother and father-in-law, sisters: Lois (Don) Lang and Joanne (Don) Richards, and her brother Dick Spies.
