Bowman Funeral Directors - Garden CityStanley J Bastian, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, educator, and public servant, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025. He was 84 years old.
Stan was born in Bicknell, Utah, to Gearson McKay Bastian and Reta Mangum. He grew up in Utah, Idaho, and California with siblings Merrill, Lewis, Gaylene, and Roger.
In 1961 he met the love of his life, Kathleen Diane Moore. They were married for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles LDS temple on January 26, 1963. After graduating together from Santa Rosa Junior College, Stan completed his B.A. at Sonoma State College and his M.A. at Colorado State University.
They and their children moved to Eagle, Idaho in 1978, where they lived the rest of their lives.
Stan was a hard-working, steadfast provider and a public servant. In addition to being a professional educator most of his life, he built houses and served in the community on the Eagle City Council, the Idaho House Representatives, the Idaho State Senate, and on the College of Western Idaho Board. He believed in making a difference in the lives of his students and in his community and state.
His greatest love was his family. Dad/Poppa loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The family loved “Rah,” a family chasing game that filled the house with laughter. He loved doing acrobatic tricks with his kids, telling corny “dad” jokes, family camping trips, caroling rides in the back of his truck, and swing dancing in the living room with his sweetheart.
He was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in many callings throughout the years, but is remembered best for his Christlike service to individuals in many ways. He loved looking for opportunities to serve in any way, from yard work to helping move to mentoring.
Stan is survived by his wife, Kathleen, siblings Roger and Gayleene, his children Gaylene Adamson (John), Kelly Anderson, Carrie Bastian (David Scott), Scott Bastian, and Mark Bastian (Rebecca) as well as 15 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his brothers Lewis and Merrill.
Stan leaves behind a legacy of love, learning, and service. He will be deeply missed by his wife, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, countless students, colleagues, and friends. His torch of compassion and faith will continue to burn brightly through the lives he touched.
His family finds comfort in knowing that, through the gospel of Jesus Christ, this parting is only temporary and that we will be reunited again.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on September 27th, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Eagle LDS Stake Center at 2090 N Eagle Rd, Eagle, ID 83616.
