Stanley Brownstein Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Robert E. Shure & Son Funeral Home, Inc. on Mar. 3, 2026.
Stanley Brownstein, born on April 5, 1938 to Abraham and Rachel Brownstein in Brooklyn, New York, lived a long, loving life and passed away on March 2, 2026, surrounded by his adoring family.

Stan was known for many things, but above all his love for his wife, Mindy. Stan and Mindy met at Hofstra University in ceramics class, where they shared a locker for the semester. That semester turned into 66 beautiful years. They married on June 12, 1960, and had four children: Laurence, Michael, Deborah, and Abigail. His children made him happy and proud always–something he was never shy to tell them. He freely extended this same love and affection to their spouses–Amalya, Laura, Thomas, and David–as well as to his sister, Nancy, her husband, Arnie, and the rest of their large, close knit family.

Stan beamed with pride over each of his eleven grandchildren. He spent every day championing Nicole (Zachary), Tali (Christopher), Maya, Jake (Katie), Olivia (Joey), Nathan, Anna (Tommy), Kayla, Haley, Joshua, and Joseph. Stan was also Papa to Cameron, his great grandchild who could always make him laugh and marvel.

Stan loved very big and was never afraid to share his admiration for everyone in his orbit, from the waitstaff at his favorite restaurants to his mail carrier, who recalls a two-week hospital stay during which Stan called him every day to check in. Stan maintained joyful, supportive friendships for decades, spending vacations adventuring around the world with his friends.

Stan's work ethnic knew no bounds, and not just when he was wielding his vacuum. After serving in the army reserves, he began a successful career as a buyer and wholesaler in women's accessories. For decades, he woke up at 4:30am to catch the Metronorth train to his office in midtown Manhattan. On the day he retired, he rode from Grand Central to Fairfield Station and exited to applause from the conductor and his fellow commuters.

Stan enjoyed frequent travel with Mindy, visiting dozens of locations, from China to Alaska. He walked in the woods daily and kept his 11 birdfeeders filled. He loved a bialy and never turned down dessert. He always offered his help to anyone who needed it, whether a grandchild who needed a ride or a neighbor without a place to spend Thanksgiving. He rocked denim and an armful (and neckful, and fingersful) of jewelry. He was easily moved and choked up often–when watching a movie or hearing of his children and grandchildren's varied accomplishments, big and small. His favorite movie was Rudy.

Stan was a lifelong model of kindness, generosity and devotion. He will continue to be loved by all who knew him–especially his family–as deeply as he loved them.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday morning, March 4, 2026 at B'nai Jacob, 75 Rimmon Road, Woodbridge, at 11 AM. with interment to follow at B'nai Jacob Memorial Park, 200 Wintergreen Ave, New Haven.
