Stanley Robert Butler JR of Fairview, PA died on May 25, 2022, at the age of 90 with his
wife by his side. Born in Ebensburg, PA in 1931, he was the son of Stanley Robert
Butler and Doris (Kishbaugh) Butler.
After graduating from Conneaut Lake High School in 1949, Stanley worked as a
machinist in Cleveland, OH until joining the United States Air Force in 1952 where he
served as a crew member on a B-29 Bomber through the Korean War. Upon his
honorable discharge, Stanley entered Penn State University, where he graduated with a
degree in Electrical Engineering, and an elected member of the Sigma Tau, Tau Beta Pi
and Eta Kappa Nu engineering honor societies. Stanley next completed General
Electric Company's manufacturing management program and then held managerial
positions at several G.E. locations. In 1971 he became Plant General Manager for Joy
Manufacturing in Bluefield, WV and oversaw the construction of Joy's new factory in VA.
Returning to Northwest PA, Stanley worked as Vice President of Manufacturing at White
Consolidated Industries RPC Valve Plant in Fairview, PA and retired from American
Hollow Boring Company in Erie as Plant Manager in 1997.
A true engineer, Stanley was always interested in the way things worked and typically
had one or more projects going on around the house. He enjoyed golf and fishing, and
all of the Butler pets over the years. He took his family on many fondly remembered
summer vacations to the beach in North Carolina. He loved to go for drives with his
wife Joan, often involving a stop for ice cream and time spent by Lake Erie.
Mr. Butler is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Joan (Staud) Butler, of Fairview,
PA, his daughter Susan Elizabeth Butler, of Lake Forest Park, Washington, his daughter
Jennifer (Butler) Burke and her husband Bill Burke of Millcreek, PA. He was preceded in
death by his son David Gregory Butler in 1982.
Stanley was buried at Greendale Cemetery in Meadville, PA. Please visit Duskas-Martin
