Stanley Greer was born August 6th, 1947 in Milam, West Virginia to Imogene Brooks and Cabel Earl Greer. Being saved in a Baptist church and baptized, he carried the Lord in his heart and had recent conversations with family about Eternal Security, confident in his profession of his faith.
He was a high school graduate of St Paul High School in St Paul, Virginia in 1966. He drove locally wherever he lived and across the country as a driver for Prime and Ryder, as well as local courier companies throughout his life.
He married Patricia Sue Hileman in Lebanon, Virginia on October 7, 1966. Their daughter Letitia Denise was born February 10th, 1967 in Lebanon, Virginia. Their son, Erle Stanley was born November 6, 1969 in
Springfield, MO. Stan and Patricia divorced and he was later married to Martha Quattlebaum on August 9, 1973 in
Springfield, MO. Their daughter, Michelle Renae was born October 29, 1973 in
Springfield, MO. After their divorce he remarried Patricia in 1983 and they remained married until her death in 2006. Much later, he was informed by a high school sweetheart, Mary Lynn, that he fathered a daughter, Terry Lynn, born October 14, 1963 in Lebanon, VA, who instantly became a part of the family.
As an avid Nascar fan, Stan was hard-pressed to miss a race on TV and cheered on his favorite driver, #3 Dale Earnhardt. Stan also enjoyed football and often called his daughter, Michelle, to chat about how his Dallas Cowboys were doing. Oliver loved sitting with his Poppaw watching the St Louis Cardinals during baseball season. He was never shy about telling you a story and never hesitated to take the long way around, often stating, "Long story short," only to ignore that declaration and give you the unfiltered, unabridged tale. He loved having family together and his eyes sparked to life watching his grandkids, then great-grandkids play. He especially found fun in the mischief of telling them something silly and watching them question everything they'd just heard. He lived a happy life, being cared for by his granddaughter, Lauren, spending his days in a loving home surrounded by the sounds of his great-grandson creating playful chaos throughout the house (likely appreciative that some sort of ruckus was being created even if old age and declining health permitted him from doing it himself).
He was known by some as Stan, others by Dad, Brother, Son. For many, he was Poppaw or Pops. And to a few of us, just "Old Man." He passed away peacefully June 13, 2025.
He is preceded in death by his father, Cabel, in 1991; his mother, Imogene, in 2012. He is surely making up for lost time with his wife, Patricia, who passed away in 2006. He is survived by four children: Terry Lynn Dover of Dalton, GA, Letitia Young of
Springfield, MO, Erle Greer of Imperial Beach, CA, and Michelle Geesling of Denison, TX. He also is survived by siblings: Rose Mooneyham, Jerry Ramey and Erlene Greer. Grandchildren include: Megan Cook, Lauren Peel, Kaitlyn Greer, Kathy Greer, Mikayla Geesling, Caiden Geesling, and Kamryn Geesling. Great-Grandchildren include: Roman Greer, Wayd Russell, Evie Cook, Kairi Cook, and Oliver Martin. Other surviving family members include a myriad of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends who will miss him dearly.
