Stanley Griffin

Stanley Griffin passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family, on August 25 He was born November 1, 1937 in Metuchen to Stella (Arasimovich) and Charles Griffin. He lived in South Amboy for many years with his wife Mary before moving to Point Pleasant in 1998.

At 16, he joined the Marines 22nd battalion, 2nd division from 1954 to 1957, where he was stationed as a mortar instructor to 2nd lieutenant Marines at Quantico, Va. After leaving the Marines, he worked at Hayden Chemical in Keasbey before entering his life work as the general manager of 21 stores on the east coast for DSS Inc., (Performance Centers of America, the suppliers of the company, closed in 1996. He then became the assistant manager for Mackay ice arena in Englewood. He also was a regional sales manager for American Auto Inc. and Monmouth Truck Equipment. In his retirement, if you could say that (as he never stopped) he worked at Carmen Spezzi and Maliszewski funeral homes. He was a great handyman who could fix just about anything.

He was an avid skier, Marathon runner and baseball player, playing baseball for the Anchor Cafe in Perth Amboy, who, in their heyday, were the Molson Ale champs against Canada. His job at DSS enabled him to travel to the many NASCAR races throughout the country, meeting racers like Richard Pettv and Dale Earnhardt. He was also a scuba instructor for N.A.S.D.S. And traveled the Caribbean with Mary to reset his clock.

As a proud Irishman, he was a Founding member of the South Amboy Ancient Order of Hibernians, David B. Kelly Division. He was a member of the John Basilone Marine Division and a Point Pleasant Zoning Board member for 7 years.

He was predeceased by his parents Stella and Charles, his siblings Charles, Pola and Susie.

He will be profoundly missed by his wife of 40 years, Mary Casey Griffin and his son Michael, who was his caretaker. He is also survived by his daughters Donna Coffman and Barbara Griffin, his grandchildren Shawn, Michael and Christopher, and his great grandchildren Logan and Greyson.

Calling hours at the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, 15 Cherry Lane, Parlin will be Friday from 3:00pm to 7:00pm with a prayer service at 6:30pm. A private cremation will follow.
