Stanley Mlakar Obituary
Stanley J. Mlakar, age 99, of Buhl, former longtime resident of Chisholm, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2025, at Cornerstone Villa in Buhl.
Stanley was born on September 15, 1925, in Chisholm to Slovenian immigrants, Jacob and Mary (Komidar) Mlakar. He graduated from Chisholm High School and later attended college in Chicago for Court Reporting. In September of 1943, Stan enlisted in the United States Navy, serving briefly during WWII. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Quartermaster 3rd Class. On July 19, 1951, he was joined in marriage to Frances Antonia Blazina at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Leetonia, together they raised 5 children, Daniel, Patrick, David, Joan and Susan. Stanley worked for the Hanna Mining company for many years as a clerk. He was a self-taught accordion player.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Mary, brothers, Joseph and William. He is survived by his wife of nearly 74 years, Frances, children, Daniel (Patti) Mlakar, Patrick (Lisa) Mlakar, David (Lisa) Mlakar, Joan (Milton) Luke, Susan (Gary) Rice, 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Rupp Funeral Home in Chisholm. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment and military honors will take place at a later date at the Chisholm Cemetery.
Stanley's family would like to thank the staff at Cornerstone Villa in Buhl and Fairview Hospice for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chisholm, Cornerstone Villa in Buhl or Fairview Hospice.
