Stanley "Stan" Peterson, a resident of Dallas, Oregon died on Saturday, May 27th in Salem Hospital. Stan was born on February 23, 1954, in Salem, Oregon, the son of John and June Peterson. Stan graduated from Central High School in 1972. Stan married Cheryl Albritton on April 6, 1973, in Monmouth. Stan served in the United States Air Force. He graduated from Puget Sound Christian College. Stan and Cheryl served in Kenya in the missionary field for the Maasai Tribe from 1980 until 1984. He later graduated from Hope International University with a master's degree in Church Growth and Development. In1986 Stan started as the youth pastor at Monmouth First Christian Church for three years. He then served as the senior pastor for 24 years. Stan and Cheryl were called to pastor a church in Sisters, Oregon and later Tumalo, Oregon. Stan developed the Chaplain program for the local police and fire agencies in Monmouth and Independence. He was Chaplain and held the rank of Captain with Polk Fire District #1. Stan enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing and food. He was a huge Green Bay Packer fan. Stan loved his grand babies and was a very involved papa.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl of Dallas, sons, Dr. J.J. Peterson, Benjamin Peterson, Jesse Peterson, daughter, Becky Nicol along with 8 beloved grandchildren.
A Celebration of Stan's Life will be on Sunday, June 11th at 2:00PM at Central High School Gymnasium. Private graveside will be in Fir Crest Cemetery in Monmouth. Memorial contributions may be made to Water Drops in care of Monmouth First Christian Church. Bollman's Tribute Center, Dallas, Oregon is caring for the family.
