James Rodney Roppe

James Rodney Roppe, 68 of Corvallis, Oregon passed away on August 8, 2025 while hiking in the National Forest of the Oregon Cascades. He was in the company of his beloved brother Randy Roppe and faithful dog Willow, who stayed by his side to the end.

Rod was born in Bremerton, Washington and later moved with his family to the Willamette Valley, where he lived for the rest of his life. He was a 1975 graduate of Central High School in Monmouth and later attended Chemeketa Community College and Oregon College of Education.

Rod worked at the Oregon State Hospital for 37 years as a Mental Health Therapist. He took his work seriously but maintained a lively sense of humor for which he will be forever remembered. In retirement, Rod enjoyed hiking, exercising, and spending hours tending to his beautiful garden.

He was preceded in death by his Father James E. Roppe and Mother Madeleine A. (Vosgien) Roppe.

Rod leaves behind the love of his life, Suzanne (Sanetel) Roppe, who spent over 37 wonderful years putting up with him and his Roppe sense of humor. They knew within two months of meeting that their love would last a lifetime, and it did. He leaves behind his daughter, Madeleine (Roppe) Niemet, who melted his heart from the day she was born and was a favorite hiking partner and the apple of his eye. Additionally, he is survived by his stepmother of 43 years, Betty Roppe, brothers, Randall and Ross Roppe (Frank Brown), step siblings, Kathy Holeman (Eric), Cyndi Wunder and Steve Dimock (Susan). His in-laws, Ronald and Janice (Richey) Sanetel and sister and brother in-law, Sarah (Sanetel) Keylock (Scott), as well as nieces and nephews, Ryan, Riley and Jadin Roppe and Christopher and Cody Keylock.

Rod will be remembered for his clever sense of humor, love for his family, and his quiet charisma. His warmth was a gift to all who were lucky enough to know him.

A private family service is planned. Suzanne, Madeleine and family are so very appreciative for all the love and support shown by their friends and community.
