C.Z. Boyer & Sons Funeral Home - Bonne Terre ChapelStanley Joseph “Stan” Greil, age 71, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Saturday, July 12, 2025, at University Hospital in Columbia, Mo.
He was born on September 2, 1953, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of Joseph Frank and Rose Imogene (Miller) Greil. He was married on May 17, 1980, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bonne Terre, Mo., to Kimberly Linn Carrow, who survives at the home.
Stan graduated from Central High School in Flat River, Missouri, in 1971. In 1973, he proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served honorably until his discharge in 1977. Following his military service, Stan pursued higher education at the University of Central Missouri and later earned a degree in Public Administration from Southern Illinois University–Carbondale.
Stan was a dedicated professional who took great pride in his work. Over the years, he served as a public administrator for city halls across Missouri, Michigan, and Oklahoma. In addition to his administrative roles, he was an avid writer, contributing obituaries, news articles, and sports coverage to several local newspapers. His passion for public service and communication left a lasting impact on the communities he served. In 2020, he officially retired as Vice President of Rose State University, capping off a distinguished and fulfilling career. He was a member of several cities’ chambers of commerce, and rotary chapters and had the distinct privilege of being able to serve his community.
When he wasn’t working, Stan found joy in the simple pleasures of life—fishing along the Maries River or exploring the world, from the bustling streets of China to the rolling hills of Ireland. Among all his travels, his favorite destination was the Amalfi Coast, where he shared cherished moments with his loving wife, Kim. A lifelong learner and natural teacher, Stan was always engaged in thoughtful conversation, particularly about politics and current events. He had a deep appreciation for news radio and was never far from the latest headlines. He always enjoyed being around his two Boston Terriers. His curious mind and passion for understanding the world around him made him both a captivating storyteller and a trusted voice among friends and family.
Above all else, Stan deeply loved his family. Whether he was traveling the world with Kim or simply watching his children and grandchildren grow, he made sure they always knew he was present, supportive, and proud. He never missed a family event—birthdays, graduations, games, or celebrations—always showing up with a smile and unwavering encouragement. His presence was a constant source of strength, laughter, and warmth.
Stan leaves behind a legacy of service, curiosity, and unconditional love. He will be remembered not only for the life he built, but for the lives he touched along the way. His wisdom, kindness, and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Stan is survived by his loving wife, Kim; son, Adam Greil (Abbie) of Jefferson City; siblings, Doris Asher (Allen), Gwen Hancock, Rita Mathia, Pam Hardy, Debbie Buschman (Chris), and Mitch Miller; grandchildren, Korina Heath (Timothy), Tailor Lewis, Mira Lunsford, and Zara Greil; and one great-grandson, Timothy Heath III; In-Laws, LaVerne and Zeno (deceased) Carrow.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Greil and Rose Miller; step-mother, Shirley Greil; daughter, Jeanna Greil; and his brother Ron Greil.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 27, 2025, in the Freeman Chapel 915 Madison Street Jefferson City, Missouri 65101. Friends and family will be received following the service from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, July 27, 2025, at Freeman Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
