Stanley Zygarowicz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Patrick T Lanigan Funeral Home - East Pittsburgh on Jan. 3, 2026.
Stanley Joseph Zygarowicz of Forest Hills, and formerly of Edgewood, in Pittsburgh, PA, took his final "time out" and passed away peacefully on Friday, January 2, 2026, at the age of 87. Stan, who was also lovingly known as "Butch," was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley Jacob Zygarowicz and Helen (Niemiec) Zygarowicz, and his beloved wife, Lucille A. "Lucy" Zygarowicz. Stan lost his beautiful and adored wife, Lucy, in July 2003, which suddenly altered the trajectory of his life and their life plans.

Stan was the loving father of Teresa (Kurt) Hausler, Nancy Neslund, Julie (Paul) Evans, and Robert Zygarowicz, and he was the adored PapPap of his nine granddaughters, Shannon (Sean Jones) Evans, Jennifer Hausler, Sarah Neslund, Molly (Devon) Klaas, Elizabeth Neslund, Caroline Hausler, Madeline (Kyle Swartzbaugh) Evans, Allison (Hunter) Slear, and Abigail Evans. Stan also recently found great joy in being the Great PapPap to the newest additions to the family, Riley and Jameson.

He was the dear brother of Dolores (the late Chuck) Fedorka and the late Ted (the late Margie) Zygarowicz, and Uncle Butch is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Stan was raised in the town of Creighton, PA. For many years, he served as a Senior Systems Analyst at Highmark before entering retirement. Beyond his professional endeavors, Stan was an active parishioner at St. Maurice Church, where he was a regular volunteer for the annual summer festival and pierogi days.

Stan was an avid golfer and bowler, enjoyed coaching and watching his children's sports teams in his earlier years, and he was a big fan of the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. Saturdays were special for Stan, as he cherished his weekly Chick-fil-A dinners with his dear friend Eileen. He will be remembered for his sense of right and wrong and for his unique sense of humor, perhaps best exhibited by the post-it notes he kept at the ready in his car in order to "good naturedly" critique the parking skills of others. Stan was a good man, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, as well as a good friend, and his presence in our lives will be dearly missed.

Friends are welcome on Tuesday from 2-7 p.m. at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Horne & Crematory, Inc., 700 Linden Ave. at Cable, East Pittsburgh, PA 15112, (412) 824-8800.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 12 noon in St. Maurice Church of St. Joseph the Worker Parish, and Stan will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Stan's name to the Eastern Area Meals on Wheels, 607 Braddock Avenue, Turtle Creek, PA 15145.
