Stefan Jachna, beloved husband of Alicja and father to Bozena and Renata Jachna, son of the late Szymon and Eleonora (nee Cesarz) Jachna of Sosnowiec, Poland, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on October 20,2024.
Stefan was born on 10/31/1924 in Niegowonice, Poland. He spent his childhood in Niegowonice, after which he moved with his family to Sosnowiec. As a teenager, during WWII, he spent 4 years in a German Labor Camp, but rarely spoke about this, not wanting to burden his family with his memories of that time. He attended Politechnik in Gdansk, Poland, receiving his Engineering and Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering. After his studies, he worked in Gliwice, Poland, where he met Alicja Maria Plucinska, his future wife. Upon the advice of his mother, under a Communist regime, he went on a trip to Sweden and asked for political asylum to try to build a better life elsewhere.
Stefan emigrated to the United States in 1957 and, once settled, invited Alicja to join him.
They wed at St Patrick's Cathedral in Manhattan on June 2, 1962. He proceeded to receive a Masters in Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology and a PhD from New Jersey Institute of Technology. The Jachnas settled in Parsippany, NJ.
Stefan had a very full professional and personal life in his nearly 100 years. Throughout his career, working for Foster Wheeler, he traveled overseeing complex mechanical engineering projects in Canada, France, London, Norway, Korea, Kuwait, and Egypt, After retiring from Foster Wheeler, he worked as a consultant for many years with BASF and other companies often travelling within the US. Stefan enjoyed meeting people from all walks of life and was loved by all due to his kind and sincere nature. Stefan and his family were parishioners of St. Ann's Church in Parsippany, NJ from 1982, before the church was built. Stefan loved to volunteer at the church and was a member of St. Ann's choir for many years.
Stefan would help everyone any way he could. He was always thinking of others and would not hesitate to help those in need. Stefan was also an avid reader. He loved history and learned through his reading. He could tell you what your name meant in Latin, and the historical significance of that name. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and a very loyal friend. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Alicja, daughter Bozena Jachna, daughter Renata Jachna, her husband Marcin, and his grandchildren Krzysztof and Gabriella. Stefan is also survived by many relatives in Poland. He is already immensely missed and his family is very grateful for all the years they were lucky enough to spend with him.
Please join Stefan's family in saying goodbye to our beloved husband, father, and grandfather on Friday, October 25th, between 4pm and 6pm at the Par-Troy funeral home at 95 Parsippany Rd. Parsippany NJ 07054. Mass and burial information will be available upon request. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St. Ann's Church in Parsippany NJ. Thank you for your prayers.
