Tuesday evening, April 15, 2025, the Lord quietly and peacefully called Stephan Cathey, while in her sleep to live with him in Heaven. Stephan had prepared for this reunion much of her entire life.
Born June 13, 1959, to Truman and Peggie Cummings, Mesquite, Texas, she spent every Sunday with her mom, dad and older brother Kyle, worshipping at East Grand Baptist Church, Dallas Texas. For much of their lives, the family loved traveling to Gober, Texas, almost weekly to spend time on the farm with Granny & Grandpa Morris. But Sunday mornings, they were right back at East Grand Baptist Church.
After graduating from Mesquite High School, Stephan began working at AT&T downtown Dallas, completing her BS and Master’s degrees at Amberton University, Dallas, and worshiping at First Baptist Church Dallas. Oh, how she loved that church, singing in the sanctuary choir and worshipping there the remainder of her life until poor health eventually intervened.
An important thing happened later in Stephan’s life when, in 2005, she met the love of her life, John Cathey, an equally strong and devoted Christian. They were married in 2006 and a few years later the Lord blessed them with two sons, Jayden and Bryce Cathey, now 11 and 14. The boys became the center of their lives.
Stephan’s big brother, the Rev. Kyle Cummings, pastor, Oak Grove Baptist Church, Hugo, Oklahoma, will officiate the service at Charles W. Smith and Sons - Sachse Chapel at 10:30 am and the graveside service at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 18, 2025 at the Gober Cemetery, Gober, Texas. Stephan will be laid to rest there alongside her mom and dad, Granny and Grandpa Morris, and niece Leah Cummings.
