Stephanie Hines Obituary

Stephanie Joanne Hines - S. Hines - in one word - Shines! And shine she did. With crystal clear blue eyes a beautiful smile, and a natural year-round tan, she shone like a star. Her outer shine was mirrored by her inner beauty which shone with compassion and care for others.

Shining athletically - she did that too. Soccer MVP, All-Area Field Hockey and Soccer, Softball MVP. Her favorite number: 14. She became an avid Runner, having completed the Disney Half-Marathon, two Broad Street Runs, and a Runners World Hat Trick (5K, 10K and Half-Marathon). Her athletic ability was not relegated to just the serious sports; she could beat you at Wii and regular Bowling, Kan Jam, Horse, any card game, Jackbox and trivia, and of course her favorite, Cornhole -- she and Cindy were an unstoppable team. She would do it whilst smiling and with a Twisted Tea in her non-throwing hand.

Like a rockstar, she wore the first pink wedding dress we’d ever seen to marry the love of her life, Ryan. Married for 12 but together for 20 years, their life was full of fun, trips, and weekends with their best friends and family. She loved Halloween, horror movies, slasher films, and any or all reality shows on Bravo…much to Ryan’s chagrin (although he secretly loved it too). More than anything, they loved being and doing things together everywhere they went. That included her second love, their chocolate lab Reese. Ryan may have been the “Director of Entertainment,” but Reese was Mommy’s girl. They took her everywhere, including those lazy days on the Delaware river where they enjoyed swimming and having fun.

Hard work - she did that too. From flipping burgers at baseball games, taking care of animals at the Vet, helping tubers at Shawnee, billing services for a chiropractor, Genesis, and her latest favorite job of them all where she really started to Shine, at AblePay.

A graduate from East Stroudsburg University, it’s appropriate that their mascot was a warrior, as we all became accustomed to using that word to describe her. Coming back time and time again… against all odds and in the face of tremendous adversity.

After knocking out cancer the first time, she wanted to live life to the fullest. That included her and Ryan doubling down on their desire to focus on their circle of friends and family. They wanted to surround themselves with people who wanted to live happy and joyful lives. Teaching us to live life fully, not sweat the small stuff or relish in drama, hug longer and dance more often, celebrating the little moments and big ones. From a wedding vow renewal in Vegas complete with an Elvis impersonator, to trips to Turks and Caicos, the beach and Mystic Island, LA, and a special trip to Italy last summer that included a sunset dinner next to the Coliseum and where she met one of her favs, Lisa Vanderpump.

The past eighteen months had been one battle after another with the cancer returning. She came through so many challenges fighting harder than anyone thought she would or could, handling each obstacle with grace, and never wavered with her ‘what’s next’ attitude. She fought with everything she had, never letting go of her hope or her warmth. Even through the hardest times, she still managed to make others smile. A warrior. A shining star. Our hero.

To know Steph was to love her. She was the life of the party, and her energy and smile were magnetic and everyone wanted to be around her. She believed that no one should dance alone! If you were in her universe, she cared about you. She made you part of her shine.

Left to keep that Shine going are her devoted husband, Ryan; mom and dad, Judy and Chris Schanbacher; Sister Chrissy and brother-in-law Craig Aravich; brother Jason and sister-in-law Amber Schanbacher and nieces, Isabella and Jocelyn; brother Christopher and nephews, Logan and Tyler and nieces Makenzie and Breanna; father-in-law Tom and mother-in-law Annamarie Hines; and sister-in-law Sharon Hines.

All are invited on Friday, August 29 to Naugle Funeral & Cremation Service, 135 W. Pumping Station Rd., Quakertown, PA 18951 for a visitation from 10am-1pm and a memorial service at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Stephanie’s name can be made to the Stephanie Hines Fund, a foundation that will help others with the financial burden that a cancer diagnosis causes. Please come and celebrate her life by wearing pink or purple, her favorite colors that also represent her valiant, years-long battle with cancer.
