Stephanie Kleiner Obituary

Stephanie Kleiner

January 28, 1957 - April 10, 2025

Stephanie Frances Kleiner, 68, of Waterloo, passed away on Thursday, April 10 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

Stephanie was born January 28, 1957 in Waterloo, daughter of James Franklin and Frances Geraldine Gustafson Wilber. She married Edward Allen Kleiner October 15, 1977 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterloo.

She graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1975 and from UNI in 1979 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business with a minor in Marketing and Management. She was a bookkeeper for Wilber Auto Body and Sales for over 40 years. An accomplished clarinetist, Stephanie was a member of the Waterloo Symphony Orchestra. An amazing cook known for her chocolate chip cookies and almond tea bread.

Stephanie was a charter member of Ascension Lutheran Church. She devoted time in various ways over the years from Bible studies, acting as a secret prayer partner, a member of the social ministry committee, and many more roles. A 2015 recipient of Life 101.9's Mother of the year award, is a testament to her dedication and love to her family.

Stephanie leaves behind an immense legacy of love and faith. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother known for her unwavering love and support. Always taking time to make crafts to bring home, hunt for caterpillars, watch their transition to monarchs, and the beauty of their release from our hands. Planning fun activities and adventures that created memories that will forever be cherished. Stephanie was an avid fisherwoman. The crown jewel of all her fishing expeditions was the thirty pound Mahi Mahi she caught with Ed off the coast of Hawaii.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Ed of Waterloo; a daughter, Kirsten (Michael) Baker of Waterloo; two sons, James (Nicole) Kleiner of Waterloo and Daniel (Taylor) Kleiner of Parkersburg; eight grandchildren, Isabelle, Natalie, Owen, Makenzie, John, Jeremiah, Layla and Samuel; a great-granddaughter, Kinzleigh; a brother, Tony (Mary) Wilber of Waterloo and a sister, Michelle Wilber of Garnavillo; faithful companion Frankie the dachshund; many brothers and sisters-in laws, nieces and nephews. Friends that were more than friends, everyone was family.

Stephanie was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 3 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 2211 Maynard Ave., Waterloo with a luncheon to follow.

Donations may be made in her honor to Cedar Valley Hospice or The Alzheimer's Association.

Family of Stephanie - I had known Stephanie from way back when I went to school with her and used to visit her in Washburn. We re-connected when I met my future husband, Mike Shubert, who ended up living next door to her off of Baltimore on Michelle Dr. She was always so friendly and neighborly. My husband has passed away now, but I loved my friendship with Stephanie even after Mike and I moved away and would come back to visit. She and her husband Ed´s son and Mike´s son, Nick, were in Cub Scouts together and we all had good times out at the Boy Scout camp. I will miss her as a friend of many years. Julie Krause
