Stephen Mateo Andres O'Barr passed away at the age of 38 on Christmas Morning 2024, after a courageous battle with stomach cancer, surrounded by his loving family.
Stephen was born on December 16, 1986, in Susanville, California to Lorena Olazaran O'Barr and Stephen Lynn O'Barr. He was the proud older brother to David and Victoria. Stephen began playing the violin at age 10 and participated in an ensemble and in a symphony. He sang in choir, enjoyed table games with friends, creating stain glass, gardening, rock climbing, and exploring hiking trails of California. Stephen enjoyed learning and would completely immerse himself into a subject when he found one interesting. He enjoyed sharing knowledge with others, and this is what made him an incredible leader.
Stephen was a practicing Seventh Day Adventist and from a young age he learned the value of helping others. He joined a youth group and enjoyed visiting nursing homes. When Stephen was 21, he went on a mission trip to Guyana where he helped rebuild schools and set up fresh water. Helping others was always his calling.
Stephen earned his bachelor's degree in nursing from Pacific Union College located in Angwin, California and worked at Crestwood Behavioral Health starting in college. Stephen started as recovery coach, an RN, working his way up to Director of Nursing in San Diego, later moving back to Crestwood's Angwin location to serve as its Administrator. His expertise, experience, and leadership were invaluable. His partnership and friendship cannot be measured. Stephen loved his career with Crestwood, as he truly believed in caring for those struggling with their mental health and supporting them in creating a life worth living. Serving others provided him a great sense of meaning and purpose and he continued to work until the very end.
Stephen married Meghan Rogers O'Barr on May 20, 2016, in Lake County, California on his family's homestead. Together they had their children, Stephen James (age 8) and Colleen Alma Grace (age 6) and two dogs Finn and Moira and his spirit cat Connell who was glued to his side always. Out of all his many accomplishments, Stephen's greatest achievement and joy of his life were his children. Stephen was a loving father; he will be deeply missed.
Stephen is survived by his loving wife, Meghan of South

Stephen had an unbreakable bond with the outdoors, often trading the beaten path for vertical rock faces, cascading waterfalls, or muddy caves during rainstorms. Even in college, while dedicated to his studies, he sought solace and adventure in nature. His creativity flourished through hands-on projects, reflecting his deep connection to the world around him. When taking a break, Stephen cherished time at his favorite spot, Hydro Bar Grill in Calistoga.
