Stephen Dwight Ayers, age 38, of Green Mountain, passed away on Friday, September 27th, 2024 due to the flood caused by Hurricane Helene. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of Danny and Miriam Huskins Ayers of Green Mountain. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: Ott and Jo Ann Higgins Ayers and maternal grandparents: Fred and Virginia Rice Huskins.
Stephen had previously worked with Glen Raven Mills in Burnsville, but was currently a Machine Technician with Ohio Electric in Barnardsville. He loved to hunt and fish. In addition, he loved to draw and enjoyed art.
Left to cherish his memory in addition to his parents, Danny and Miriam, is his wife, Alena Sharpe Ayers; daughters: Olivia, Eden, Bridgett; brother, Tony Ayers (Katie) of Green Mountain; sister, Kandias Honeycutt and (Nick) of Jacks Creek; mother-in-law, Tammy Presnell (Randy); father-in-law, Sam Sharpe (Donna) and sister-in-law, Jessica Sharpe. Numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family also survive.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, October 14th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Phillip Hughes and Rev. Andrew Thomas will officiate. Burial will follow in the Zion Community Cemetery on Long Branch. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
