John Michael Stockton, age 61, of the Buladean Community, went Home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 3rd, 2025 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. A native of Burke County, he was the son of John Stockton and the late Patsy Ward Stockton. He was also preceded in death by two uncles: Dallas Wayne Garland and Eddie Garland.

John was a long-haul truck driver for over 25 years, and spent 13 wonderful years trucking alongside his wife, Sally, who was the love of his life. The two of them loved seeing and driving across the country and, more importantly, their time together. He also loved riding his motorcycle, but his real passion was drag racing. He enjoyed the outdoors, sitting around the campfire with friends and family, and barbecuing for all his buddies. He was loved dearly by his friends, family, and his canine companion, Pookie, and wonderful memories of him will be cherished by all.

In addition to his father and stepmother, John and Margaret Stockton, he is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Sally Melissa Stockton; daughter, Elizabeth Sturgill (Dustin); three sons: Jeff Stockton (Autumn), Derik Stockton (Whitney), and Mikey Stockton (Betsy); nine grandchildren and one on the way; one great-grandchild on the way; sister, Evelyn Whitson (Beaver); niece, Jessie Whitson; three nephews: David Whitson (Melanie), Zach Whitson (Dee), and Andrew Whitson; seven great-nieces and great-nephews, and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 10th, in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Service. Burial will follow at the Stockton Cemetery at 104 Will Hughes Road in Roan Mountain. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend special thanks to all the wonderful people at Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge for the excellent care given to John. Memorial donations may be made to the funeral to help with funeral expenses.
