Stephen Earl Chevrette, born March 6, 1954, passed away on January 7, 2026, in Florida, at the age of 71. He was a longtime and proud resident of Aspen Valley, Colorado, a place he truly called home.

Stephen proudly served in the United States Army from 1971 to 1974. Throughout his life, he worked in many trades, known for his strong work ethic, resilience, and willingness to do whatever was needed for his family. His friends called him Chevy.

He found peace and joy in the outdoors and was an avid fly fisherman who also loved hunting and camping. Just as memorable as his love of nature was his humor and quick wit. Stephen had a gift for naming movies, quoting favorite scenes, and breaking into song lyrics, often reciting verses from memory and keeping those around him laughing. His favorite sayings reflected both his humor and his outlook on life — from “There’s plenty of time to sleep when you’re dead,” to “There are two things that smell like a goat: one is a goat,” to his reminders about work and perseverance, “If you have time to lean, you have time to clean,” and “There’s always hope with water and soap.”

Above all else, Stephen cherished his family, especially his grandchildren. He made it a priority to be present in their lives, managing to be there for the birth of all but two of his grandchildren, and remaining a constant, loving, and involved presence as they grew. Being with them was where his heart lived.

Stephen is survived by his daughter, Karon Vonfeldt (Doug); his grandchildren, Jackson, Alex, Brandon, TJ, Jessica, Jasmyn, Jaymie, Jennah, Jillien, and Jocelyn; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother; his sister; his brother; his granddaughter, Stormy; and his late ex-wife, Katharine.

Stephen will be remembered for his devotion to family, his love of the outdoors, his unmistakable humor, and the love he expressed so freely. He ended every phone call with his daughter the same way: “I love you. I’ve always loved you.” That love will remain with his family always.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
