Stephen Kent Davis

August 5, 1953 – January 11, 2026

Stephen Kent Davis, of Claudville, Virginia—known to most simply as Steve—passed away on January 11, 2026, at the age of 72.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Bennett Davis and Gertrude Vernon Bowman Davis.

Steve is survived by his uncle, Gordon Bowman; his aunt, Oleta Miller; his brothers, Douglas Davis and Charles Davis (Brenda); seven nieces and nephews; and eleven great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom carry forward his stories, laughter, and unmistakable spirit.

Steve was a mechanic by trade and a legend by reputation. He was well known throughout the community for helping anyone who needed it—often without being asked and never expecting anything in return. A true wizard with any car, he also won numerous demolition derbies, proving that skill, grit, and fearlessness were simply part of who he was.

He was equally well known for his sharp sense of humor, his sarcastic but deeply lovable nature, and his big heart. Steve loved animals of all kinds and was famous for somehow befriending even the wildest critters. Fearless, loyal, and unapologetically himself, he lived life on his own terms and loved his people fiercely.

Scripture reminder:

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”

—Ephesians 2:8–9

Those who knew Steve know this: grace was always bigger than judgment, love louder than condemnation, and heaven richer for his arrival. If there’s laughter echoing and joy overflowing, he’s there—finally home and most assuredly dancing with his Mama.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Hatchers Chapel Church with Reverend Philip Adams officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
