Stephen Richard (Steve) Eyler, 68, passed away gently at home in Friday Harbor, WA on August 12, 2025, with his family and two beloved greyhounds by his side.

Steve was born in Tracy, CA on September 12, 1956, to Dean and Carol (Stormes) Eyler and grew up in Oak Harbor, WA. A true Pacific Northwest adventurer, he spent half of his life on the water and much of the rest of his free time hiking the beautiful trails of Whidbey and the San Juan Islands. Steve was happiest when he was walking in nature with his wife and dogs or boating on the Salish Sea and surrounding mountain lakes. He loved sharing the bounties of his crabbing, shrimping, and clam-digging excursions with friends and neighbors, hosting what he deemed "Steve's Seafood Extravaganza" dinners.

Steve was a career electrical lineman and a proud member of the IBEW Local 77. After working for Puget Power in Bellingham and Oak Harbor for decades, he moved to Orcas Island in 2001 and to San Juan Island in 2015, diligently serving his community as a General Foreman at Orcas Power & Light Cooperative. Steve retired in 2022 after 45 years in the line trade, where he made countless friends and wonderful memories.

Steve is survived by his adoring family, who are missing him deeply, including his wife, Amy Saxe-Eyler, and stepdaughter, Carleton Saxe, both of Friday Harbor, daughter Carly (James) Eyler and son Thomas (Joseph) Eyler-Bauer, brother Kenny (Jonnie) Eyler and sister Deanne (James) Leyden, mother-in-law Connie Bohall, and sisters-in-law Tammy (PK) Pate and Wendy Bohall, along with many extended family members.

If you were touched by Steve's generosity and wish to honor his life, memorial contributions may be made to your local food bank, Hospice of the Northwest, or the Fred Hutch Cancer Center in Seattle, WA. Steve's family is eternally grateful for the kind and compassionate care he received from the excellent surgeons, physicians, and nurses at Fred Hutch and Hospice of the Northwest.

There will be a celebration of Steve's life announced at a later date.
