I first met Steve in the mid-1990's. I worked in child care in KC and he managed that system from Central Office. He was so smart and always open to suggestions to improve the system for staff and people we served. I worked with Steve until I retired in 2023. He was fearless. Even when we completely changed the child care business model in 2005 he was right there making sure things worked. When we decommissioned his system in 2017 he never looked back. Always moving forward figuring new things out. Steve was brilliant. He will be missed.

I worked with Steve at SRS/DCF for many years and before he started working there, we rode the commuter van together to Topeka. I can still hear his voice - he was a unique person - so smart, engaging, funny, and always himself. We enjoyed talking about work things, but also politics and everything else - he had a very active, thoughtful mind and we had a mutual respect as we both strived at our jobs to serve our clients and try to make everything work right behind the scenes. It was more complicated than most people can imagine, and Steve was so good at his job. Later, I would sometimes see a letter to the editor that he had written, and it sounded just like him - logical, intelligent, well-written, and caring. My condolences to his family and friends.

Sending my sincere condolences to the Ferrier family - Steve and I worked together for the State of Kansas where he was known for his expert knowledge and diligence. He will surely be missed.
