Stephen Godin Obituary
Published by Legacy from Jul. 22 to Jul. 31, 2025.
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Stephen Roger Godin, who departed this life on July 18, 2025, surrounded by family and love.
Stephen went by many nicknames: Steve, Stevie, Goldie, Hairbear, Stevelate, Pop-Harley, and most importantly, Dad. He had a laugh that would light up any room, unwavering kindness, and endless devotion to those he cared for. He lived a life marked not by grand gestures, but by the steady, everyday ways he showed up for others-with a helping hand, a kind word, a warm smile, and a heart full of love. His love was always felt fiercely, and he expressed it freely.
Born in Colchester, Vermont, to Lucille (Ste.Marie) Godin and Marcel Godin, Steve was raised in Saint Albans, where he developed lifelong friendships with his tight-knit Cedar Street crew. Someone was always referencing the "Saxony" days, and he loved nothing more than reminiscing with those friends for hours at a time.
He lived by the values he was raised with: hard work, integrity, and the belief that family always comes first. Whether through his long career at IBM, his role as a devoted father, proud grandpa, loyal brother, caring uncle, or simply as a good friend and neighbor, Steve left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Through his long, courageous battle with heart disease, he showed grace, humor, and strength. He was known to be a respectful, hilarious patient. Every nurse and doctor who treated him said the same thing: "He's a hoot."
Steve was the proud dad of Sarah Alice, the light of his life. He taught us how to be honest, humble, fiercely loyal, and unafraid to laugh at ourselves. His love was a constant reminder that love -whether for people or animals -is a precious gift. He was also a loving grandfather, brother, friend, master of making all the dogs love him, teller of quite hilarious stories, and creator of memories we will forever cherish.
Steve is survived by his daughter, Sarah Godin-Biggie, and his son-in-law, Brad, his two grandsons, Finnian and Silas Biggie (with Shannon Peters), and his great-grandson, Bryson Michael Biggie. He is also lovingly remembered by his first wife, Norma Kimball, and his partner Deborah Bissonette Blechert.
He leaves behind his siblings and their spouses: Gary Godin (Louise), Ken Godin (Charmaine), Scott Godin (Cindy), and Heidi Godin, as well as his nieces and nephews, all of whom were so important to him: Kim Pratt, Kelly Turman, Marci Tahair, Jesse Godin, Mercedes Godin, Ashley Neary, Nick Godin, Alex Godin, and Zach Godin. He also leaves behind many other family members and friends whom he loved dearly.
He will be greatly missed by the current family pups, Nikki, Maxy, and Duke, who all knew he was a soft touch for a treat or a belly rub.
Steve is reunited with those who went before him, including his parents Lucille and Marcel Godin, his brother Michael Godin, and his nephew Tyler Carter. He joins his beloved friends Mary Bissonnette, Fred Pilon, and Michael George Malbeouf, and many more who filled his heart throughout his lifetime.
We are heartbroken, but deeply grateful for the gift of his life. In our sadness, we find comfort knowing he is at peace and that his legacy lives on in the many lives he touched.
A celebration of Steve's life will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the American Legion, 100 Parah Drive, Saint Albans, VT. A brief service will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by visiting hours from 11:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend, share stories, and honor his gentle, joyful spirit.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Steve's name to Feral to Fur-Ever, an animal rescue organization. Your kindness will help continue the compassion Steve showed to every animal he met.
