Stephen Gerard Gorman
June 9, 1952 - March 13, 2025
Stephen Gerard Gorman, 72, died March 13th, at Saint Francis Hospital in Wilmington, DE.
The third of six children, Steve was born June 9, 1952, son of William P. Gorman Sr. and Charlotte M. Gorman. Steve grew up in Winthrop "by the sea", MA, and enjoyed playing hockey and baseball as a child. Living in the Boston area, Steve became a lifelong supporter of the Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins, and the Pats. His father worked for American Airlines, a path Steve followed, working in the airline industry for over 40 years before retiring from G2 Solutions in January 2025. He met Tracey Ann Ballantyne in Dallas, TX where they both worked for American Airlines. Tracey & Steve celebrated 41 years of marriage together, raised three children, and enjoyed time with three granddaughters.
Steve's work at American Airlines and US Air required multiple moves across the country. His original post was in Boston, MA before moving to Houston then Dallas, TX. From there, Steve & Tracey moved to Savannah, GA where their oldest, Sean Patrick, was born, then onto Raleigh, NC where Cassandra Ballantyne was born. The family of four moved back to Dallas, TX where Bryce Stephen was born. A quick move to Los Angeles, CA preceded coming back to Cary, NC for seven years. Steve transferred up to the Philadelphia, PA area, where he lived the rest of his life.
Growing up close to water gave Steve a lifelong love of the coast. He enjoyed trips to Wrightsville Beach and Bald Head Island, NC with his family. Combining the ocean with a love for travel, he visited Bermuda, Hawaii, & Bali. Tracey and Steve would often visit various Mexican beaches together. Some of his favorite hobbies included golf and cheering on Tottenham Hotspur with his family.
Family meant everything to Steve, and he always looked forward to time with his children and grandchildren. Steve is survived by his wife Tracey Gorman; three children: Sean Gorman & Rachel of Charlotte, NC, Cassandra Brinker & Eric of Wilmington, DE, and Bryce Gorman and Brooke Duncan of Wilmington, NC; and three granddaughters: Harlow Charlie Gorman, Blake Moffitt Gorman, & Rowan Charlotte Brinker. He is survived by siblings Maureen Murphy of Winthrop, MA, Richard Gorman of Lawrence, MA, Kathleen Hogan & Gerry of Nashua, NH, and Charlene Burwell & Thomas of Stratham, NH, and sister-in-law Ann Gorman of Winthrop, MA; nieces & nephews William Gorman & Jennifer, Keith Gorman & Karen, Matthew Murphy & Kate, Michael Murphy, Noelle Hogan, Timothy Hogan & Julie, Kara Brown & Derek, Michael Gorman, Lyndsey Gorman, Daniel Rio & Krystle, and Nicholas Rio & Caitlin. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by brother William Gorman Jr.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Michael the Archangel, 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop, MA on Friday, March 28th at 11:00am. Reception will follow at the Winthrop Yacht Club, where Steve was a member for a number of years, at 12:30pm. Relatives and friends are invited to both the ceremony and reception.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to the William P. Gorman Jr. Scholarship Fund William Gorman, 42 Lowell Rd., Winthrop, MA 02152.
