On June 10, 2024, Steve Herman born February 8, 1950 peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his loving family after bravely battling cancer for nearly five years. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, O.L. and Elizabeth Harris Herman of Pinetops, NC, and his brothers, Mike Herman of Littleton, NC and Jim Herman of Pinetops, NC.
Steve is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Joan Conner Herman, and his sons, Jeff (Katie) of Severna Park, MD and Kevin (Elizabeth) of Wake Forest, NC. His greatest source of pride and joy were his 5 grandchildren: Drew (19), Ellie (16), Sam (16), Emmy (15), and Abigail (15). He is also survived by his cherished extended family; including beloved sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Brenda and Steve Browder, LaVerne Jordan and Kaye Herman as well as his nieces and nephews.
Steve and Joan married in 1970 and moved to Clarksville in 1972. After graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University, Steve embarked on a career with Burlington Industries where he worked in various accounting and managerial positions, including Plant Manager of the Clarksville Finishing Plant.
Beyond his professional career, Steve dedicated countless hours to volunteer work. He generously gave time to the BSA Cub Scout Pack 7450, Jamieson Memorial Methodist Church, the United Way, the Mecklenburg County Community Services Corporation, and the Town of Clarksville Zoning and Planning. Throughout his life, he achieved numerous accomplishments, his proudest being earning his Eagle Scout in 1964 which led to his lifetime commitment to community, service, and faith. In recognition of his contributions, he was honored with the Clarksville Lake Country Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award in 2019.
A memorial service in celebration of Steve's life will be held at Jamieson Memorial Methodist Church on June 13 at 11am followed by a gathering at the church's fellowship hall.
