Stephen E. Hess, passed away on February 4, 2024, in Old Bridge. He was born on April 7, 1958, in Brooklyn, NY, to Frederick and Marie Hess.
Stephen attended high school at Monsignor Farrell, where he graduated in 1976. Stephen's journey in life included employment as an EMT for the FDNY. For seven years, he dedicated himself to helping others, selflessly serving the community he held dear. Stephen's compassion, dedication, and bravery made a lasting impact, and he will be forever remembered for his unwavering commitment to saving lives.
Stephen was known for his love of motorcycles. He was an enthusiast who found solace in the open road, often venturing out with his friends and brother, Fred. The freedom, camaraderie, and thrill of riding were a source of joy for Stephen, and he cherished the memories created on those journeys.
Stephen also loved to play softball and did so for many years across the numerous Staten Island softball leagues. When his time as a player came to end, Stephen turned to umpiring where he continued to be involved with the game he loved for many years.
Stephen is survived by his loving wife of over 28 years, Mela Hess, who was the center of his world. Together they built a beautiful life, filled with love and laughter. Their bond was unbreakable, and their love was a testament to the power of a true partnership.
Stephen was a devoted father to his son, Nicholas, and his daughter, Charity. He cherished his role as a father and took great pride in watching his children grow, achieve their goals, and build their own families. Stephen's love for his children was immeasurable, and he was always there to offer support, guidance, and encouragement.
Stephen was a beloved brother to Fred and his wife, Lisa Hess, Kathleen and Joe Bowen, and Christopher. He shared a special bond with his siblings, and they were a source of strength and support throughout his life. Stephen treasured the moments spent with his family, cherishing the laughter, stories, and shared memories.
Stephen was a doting grandfather to his beloved grandchildren, Tegan, Brodan, Maevan, and Rydan. He found immense joy in their presence and cherished the time spent with them. Whether it was playing games, sharing stories, or simply being together, Stephen's love for his grandchildren knew no bounds.
Above all, Stephen adored his family. He relished every moment spent with his loved ones, creating lasting memories that will be cherished for generations to come. Stephen's love, kindness, and warmth touched the hearts of all who knew him, and his legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those he leaves behind.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Marie Hess.
He is survived by his loving wife Mela, his cherished children Nicholas and Charity and husband Brendan, by his devoted siblings Fred and wife Lisa Hess, sister Kathleen and husband Joe Bowen, brother Christopher. By his adored grandchildren Tegan, Brodan, Maeven and Rydan, and by his caring nieces and nephews, Corey Hess, Jesi Bowen and Matt and Erin Hess.
